在 (zài) can be used as the predicate when followed by a location.
在 (zài) dapat digunakan sebagai predikat ketika diikuti oleh lokasi.
哥哥在学校。
Older brother is at school. Kakak laki-laki ada di sekolah.妈妈不在家。
Mom is not at home. Ibu tidak ada di rumah.小猫在椅子下面。

The interrogative pronoun “哪儿” (nǎr) is used to ask about the location of someone or something.
Kata tanya “哪儿” (nǎr) digunakan untuk menanyakan lokasi seseorang atau sesuatu.
小猫在哪儿？
Where is the kitten? Di mana kucing kecil?我的书在哪儿？

在 (zài) can also function as a preposition, placed before a location word to indicate the place where an action or event occurs.
在 (zài) juga dapat berfungsi sebagai preposisi, ditempatkan sebelum lokasi untuk mengindikasikan tempat di mana suatu tindakan atau peristiwa terjadi.
他在学校看书。
He is reading a book at school. Dia sedang membaca buku di sekolah.妈妈在医院工作。
